The acculumated anti-glare cover glass we have produced for ATM machine is around 150kpcs since 2009. They are exported to Japan and applied as screen protector on ATM machine all over the world. We can’t believe that we have produced so many anti-glare glass for ATM machine within 6 years until we count. The situation that we first stepped into the ATM industry remains fresh in my memory.
In the second half of 2008, my friend introduced me to visit a Japanese factory about a new product. Although we had brief talking via phone, i don’t know it is the anti-glare glass on ATM machine until we met each other.
They were looking for the factory which can handle it well. But for the high quality demand, the project wasn’t proceeding well. At that time, the financial crisis swept the globe, our company was also in hardest time, we had to grab the chance to develop new product.
Client took out the glass sample and explained its demand and features in the front of computer monitor, said “ normal glass is transparent, but this one is a little hazy, because there is special treatment on its surface, it can reduce reflectivity greatly, no matter you look at monitor from front or side. What we want is the factory which can produce it with same performance” That was the first time that i know AG glass.
They gathered many AG glass samples from chinese factories, i can tell the quality difference between chinese and japanese sample quickly under his guidance. The chinese samples have the following defects: obvious surface particle, uneven spread, absonant gloss. The japanese sample has a very smooth surface and even gloss. The strong quality difference shocked me greatly. At that time, i made a decision that we must produce the same quality level AG glass in china.
I visited around 10 AG glass manufacturers in 1 month, and produced samples at my own expense, but all of them can’t meet the client’s demand, the bad anti-glare performance, it frustrated me seriously. But it didn’t change my mind, “i will make efforts not second to anyone”.
Finally, we developed basically qualified etching AG glass successfully with the help of my HK’s friend. We should look for cooperative factory to process chemically strengthening and grinding. It was very hard to meet the demand of dropping 500g steel ball from 1.5 meters and keep the 3.0mm 15 inch glass unbroken 6 years ago. There were few factory which can make chemically strengthening. Luckily, one factory with long-term perspective is willing to try, thus, the project can survive.
We shall control the dimensions accuracy,warpage, chamfer corner , and surface appearance of glass except for the glass strength issues. The strict japanese quality control makes us step slowly. We forward the clients’ request to factory flexible yet principled on the base of years of communication with japanese clients. We make examples to them, including the documentations. It’s our daily work to instruct each process and communicate the quality management key points. We are one of the factory staff already.
Finally, we processed the qualified glass sample for ATM machine, it not only meets the drop ball test, but also increased the unbroken height to 2meters. Compared to client’s sample, the appearance of our samples are in the same level with them. For the fuly preparation, we’ve passed the factory auditing one time. Then, we are the official and qualified supplier for one of the world’s top 500 company.
We have been producing cover glass for ATM for six years. Today, i request my colleague to calculate the total shipping quantity. The result shocks me deeply. Although we only provide for this Japanese company , the market potential is very big. What makes me proud is that there is no quality complaint. Although the exchange rate fluctuation results in the higher cost, we’re still the first options for clients to purchase the anti-glare cover glass.
