Is it still an unsolvable issue for glass under 2.0mm to realize large area dead front effect?

By gelivableglass In AG Glass

The dead front effect of the touch display is always a trend. The display is clearly visible when back-lit, and when not-backlit, the entire display including glass is completely black without color difference. Last year Gelivable developed a kind of gray glass successfully that can realize dead front effect. The gray glass material itself is grayish, and the transmittance is high, which exactly meets the dead front effect requires. At present, the dead front glass covers used in smart home and medical industry are in stable mass production.

However, for this gray glass, the glass material manufacturer only produces three thicknesses: 2.0mm, 3.0mm, 4.0mm. Although there are many other material manufacturers to produce thin sheets of gray glass, when we look for various manufacturers, their thin sheets of gray glass have common problems, like bubbles, impurities and others, which can not meet the quality standard of electronic glass. So it’s hard to be used as glass cover of industrial control, medical, financial and other displays.

Because of the specificity of the ink, it’s unable to achieve large area of the dead front effect by printing. And the cost of electroplating is too high. Is it really impossible for a glass cover under 2.0mm to achieve the dead front?

We have tried many different ways and finally find a way to solve the issue. ——- We can offer a dead front solution to the glass under 2.0mm.

In what way?

Thinning. Thin with 2.0mm glass to the required thickness.

The appearance quality of the 2.0mm gray glass we are using is good. After several tests, it can be thinned to a variety of thicknesses such as 1.5, 1.3, 1.1, 0.7, 0.55 by polishing, and the appearance quality can reach the standards of electronic level, as well. And the transmittance is high.

Regardless of the thickness and area of the dead front glass cover, Gelivable can help you achieve.
