5 years ago, Gelivable started to try the business of custom glass backed with 3M double side adhesive to meet client’s project. This part have been increasing these years.
Why do more and more clients need custom glasses backed with 3M adhesive ? 3M adhesive is a must for many product’s assembly, some assembly line doesn’t have capability of this, and, how to clean glass after gluing adhesive is a issue for assembly factory.
At the first stage, only a few samples / small lot requires 3M adhesive, we always make a simple positioning fixture with wooden pad, one by one. To be honest, efficiency and yield are very low. If we glued wrong adhesive, it cost much time to peel tape off and increased costs. Workers felt hard to finish this work.
At that time, the case was not so difficult, hand-made work can finish somehow. But one day, a client whose business is smart shower, complained that bubbles were between 3M adhesive and glass, and acceptable tolerance is very small. This lets us in trouble, we ever tried deaeration, but small bubbles still existed.
Occasionally, we thought of a machine which was used to apply AB glue. It can remove bubbles successfully. After that, we used this machine to glue 3M adhesive on many glasses. It not only avoid bubbles, but also position well. Last year, we bought a new machine which can apply on 15” glass.
But we met a new issue, only big size glasses can be adsorbed well. One day, a client asked us to apply adhesive with 2mm width, not to mention off-center, adhesive deformed. After several rounds of discussion, finally we changed the release liner to thicker PET, this method solved the deformation and increased efficiency
Last month, client asked us to provide glass with a more difficult adhesive. There are 20 pieces of different dimension adhesive on one piece of glass, 1 piece cost 1 hour.
Till now, custom glass backed with 3M double side adhesive has become major business. Not only that, we also involve in client’s design and suggest appropriate 3M adhesive for different applications.
